A Sponge and Water to Remove Make Up? My Honest Face Halo Review

When I saw all the buzz surrounding the Face Halo, my first thought was “Yeah, ok. There’s no way that a sponge and some water is going to remove all of my make up, most of which lasts all day.  It’s too good to be true.”

And yet, I was pleasantly surprised and (dare I say it), proven wrong.

What it the Face Halo?

The Face Halo

It’s a round reusable, double-sided pad that only needs to be dipped in warm water and wiped over your face to remove make-up easily and gently, without the need for a cleanser.

Here’s what Face Halo say on their website:

“The water loosens your makeup allowing the HaloTech fiber strands (which are 100 times finer than a human hair) to reach deep into your pores to remove and trap makeup, giving your skin a healthy and invigorating clean in half the time”

Made from non-toxic microfibre, and reusable for up to 200 wash cycles, this nifty little pad is a beauty game changer.  It’s also sustainable and natural, making it the perfect alternative to face wipes, which can often be harsh, expensive, costly to the environment and damaging to the skin over time.

The Face Halo

My Face Halo Experience

After using the Face Halo for a week, on different types and varying amounts of make-up, one thing is clear: it works, and my skin was clean in just a few sweeps.  Foundation was removed and blusher and lipstick disappeared into the Halo Tech fiber strands. Most of my eye make up, including waterproof mascara was erased, but stubborn glitter and long-wear eyeliner required a gentle eye make up remover to ensure a thorough cleanse.

Overall, my skin felt clean and smooth, without that tight feeling that comes after using some harsh cleansers, and the double sided pad makes this a clever design; I used one side to remove all the make-up and then the second side to mop up anything that might have been missed.

Face Halo recommend that you hand wash these after every use with gentle soap and warm water and pop them in the washing machine 1-2 times a week.  I found that gentle shampoo and warm water removed most traces of make up, and the machine wash made the Face Halo bright-white and shiny new again.

After a week of continual use and 1 machine wash, the Face Halo still looks brand new

That said, I plan to buy a pack of 3because I’ve been using the Face Halo almost every day since I bought it, and it would be nice to skip the shampoo clean on busy days.

How I get the most out of the Face Halo

  • On lazy make up days, when I’m only wearing eyeliner, concealer, mascara, cream blush and a bit of tinted lip balm,  I just use the Face Halo; it’s more than enough to leave my skin clean and fresh.
  • I’ve found that it’s perfect for travel, and definitely gentler and more effective than face wipes
  • On heavier make up days, I use the Face Halo as a pre-cleanse to loosen the make up, and then go in with an eye make up remover to catch the last traces of glitter and eyeliner, and a deep cleanser such as the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, to ensure that my skin is prepped for a rich moisturiser.
  • As a self-confessed double-cleanse addict, I’m not quite ready to say goodbye to my trusty miceller water just yet, so I’ve been using that too if I’m in a rush, instead of the Cleanse and Polish.

My final thoughts on the Face Halo

  • The Face Halo is definitely worth having as a face wipe replacement; it’s cheaper, gentler, more economical and a move in the right direction for a more sustainable beauty industry
  • It’s gentle and multi-purpose- my two essentials for beauty products
  • It’s perfect to use as a pre-cleanse on heavy make up days because it breaks down the products without scrubbing, and allows your cleanser to do its deep-cleaning work easily
  • You can also use it to ensure all make up has been removed, in a final sweep
  • It’s perfect for travel because it takes up zero space

Let me know how you use the face Halo and what you think of it!

    1. Thanks Dani! I’ve tried an Afterspa towel, and that’s also super soft. I’d love to know what you think of the Face Halo. I’m always looking for new products to try, so I’ll take a look at the Fresh Face towels. Thank you for the recommendation.
